APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR

Concrete NZ, in partnership with BCITO, is calling for entries to the 2026 Concrete Industry Apprentice of the Year award.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the award recognises outstanding apprentices who are helping to shape the future of New Zealand’s concrete industry and wider construction sector.
With a $10,000 prize pool and national industry recognition on offer, the programme highlights apprentices demonstrating skill, commitment, leadership and pride in their work.

Past winners have come from across the industry, including ready mixed concrete production, concrete contracting, precast manufacturing and concrete cutting - highlighting the wide range of rewarding career pathways available within the concrete industry.

The award also showcases how supportive and rewarding the sector can be for people willing to learn and grow. The initiative reinforces the importance of trade training and acknowledges the vital role employers, workmates and families play in supporting apprentices to succeed and build long-term careers.

Training remains critical to the future of the concrete industry, and the contribution made by employers investing in apprentices continues to make a real difference across the sector.

The 2026 award is open to apprentices currently enrolled in, or who have completed since August 2025, one of the following BCITO qualifications:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Construction Skills (Level 3)

  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Construction: Commercial and Civil Infrastructure (Level 4)

  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Specialist (Level 4)

  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Production (Level 4)

Concrete NZ membership is not required to apply.

Applications close Friday 14 August 2026.

The winner will be announced during the 2026 Concrete NZ Conference Formal Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Thursday 22 October 2026 at Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Concrete apprentices, their employers and assessors must each complete an entry form.
